The Current Situation
The
situation is:-
- The
practice is up to the recommended number of patients for its capacity
and is physically short of space.
- It
needs to expand but cannot due to the constraints of its existing
premises.
- The
population is already increasing steadily in the area and could do
so dramatically if potential housing developments go ahead.
- Keeping
things as they are is not an option. New premises are needed.
2
Delivery of Services
- The
NHS is trying to move to keeping hospitals for doing the things that
they do best - treatment of serious illness.
- People
want to be treated as close to home as possible
- Therefore,
it makes sense to deliver services locally where possible as this
meets patients' wishes and is generally better value for money.
- A
wider range of services can be delivered.
- This
is being done successfully throughout the country and locally at East
Bergholt and Stowmarket.
- With
finite resources, the best and most economical way of delivering this
across the Holbrook/Shotley practice area needs to be found.
3
Impact of Potential Ganges Development
- 325
homes
- As
part of any permission, Babergh DC is being asked to negotiate with
the developer whereby he would agree to provide funding for local
facilities: -
- Transport
- Highways
- Sports
and leisure
- Education
- Police
- Affordable
Housing
- Health
- Therefore,
so far as health is concerned, we will be asking for a contribution
from the developer to take account of the impact of these new homes
on services provided.
