Shotley Parish Council meeting, 8 Feb 2007

This is a very brief summary of just some of the key points from the Shotley Parish Council meeting, held on 8 February 2007. More details are in the minutes or by contacting the Clerk: parishclerk@myshotley.com, 01473 788248.

  • The Council was very pleased to have received approval from Babergh East Local Strategic Partnership, to draw £10,000 from their grant towards redeveloping the tennis courts area. The design brief had now been sent to three potential suppliers to quote.
  • At the play area in Shotley Gate, negotiations were progressing on the repair of the gates; adjustments will be made soon to the equipment by its supplier; new signs will soon be erected, and a discarded sofa on the site had quickly been removed.
  • It was agreed that the PC would arrange a climate change workshop in Shotley, and then publicise to the community.
  • Following the decision at the previous meeting to encourage prospective parish councillors in advance of the election on 3 May, a number of people had indicated interest. An article has appeared in Noticeboard, and a photograph taken of the Council will also be used. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact the Parish Clerk.
  • The Council discussed the planning application relating to 1 Brickfield Terrace, Wades Lane. The applicants were present at the meeting, and the PC had received an objection. It was resolved not to object, although alternative roofing materials would be suggested. The PC also had no objections to applications at 69 Great Harlings and 1 Gate Farm Road.
  • PC Chris Garrod was not available to report in person, but he had informed the Parish Council about the HMS Ganges site (and Corner Garage) being used for police training, including Armoured Response Units. Reference was also made to problems in Lloyd Road involving a small number of young people.
  • It was reported that the number of visitors to the community and Parish Council website www.MyShotley.com continues to increase rapidly with nearly 6000 in January. Informal research indicates that it may be the most popular community website in Suffolk.
  • A finance report was received.
  • The Clerk updated on a number of other issues and incidents.
  • Next meeting of the Parish Council: 15 March 2007 at 7.15pm in the Village Hall. All welcome.
