- The subject dominating the open forum and meeting was the applications by Shotley Marina for improvements to the waterfront road. The public expressed their concerns, mainly about traffic in Bristol Hill. Following a long debate the PC voted to oppose the application to lift the conditions which, if so lifted would enable the construction of up 70 properties at the Marina using Bristol Hill and King Edward VII drive as access. The PC had a speaking slot at Babergh Development Committee's meeting to consider the applications on 21 June [subsequently postponed]. <more>
- The Clerk will investigate why the public toilets in Bristol Hill are still not open (except disabled). [see latest news 22 Jun 06]
- PC Chris Garrod reported that there were 3 reported crimes in the Parish during May, compared to 11 in May 2005. He said his presence outside the school some mornings was having an effect on traffic speed etc. He mentioned the fatal accident at Gayford Terrace
- County Cllr Dave Woods' report included bonfires and the future of education consultation.
- The Parish Council agreed to give grants to:
- Childline, Headway, Hanover at Home, Suffolk Family Carers, Young Mindz, Archery Group, Shotley Noticeboard, Good Neighbours Scheme
- The Council noted that the Parish Plan Implementation Board are recommending to the Babergh East Local Strategic Partnership that a proportion of the funding award is allocated to community groups:
- Village Hall Management Ctte
- HMS Ganges Museum
- Church Heritage 700
- Shotley Youth & Community Project
- It was agreed to fund half of the Shotley Business and Information Directory. Cllr Woods had been approached to cover the other half.
- The Communication Strategy was adopted by the Council. It is a comprehensive look at how the community currently communicates, why and how it can be improved. It will be reviewed in September 2006.
- It was agreed to install a new bench at each of the play areas.
- New dog bins were agreed for Tudor Close and Marsh Lane.
- Grounds maintenance will be considered at the September meeting. Please send us your views.
- The Shotley Youth & Community Project had its first meeting since re-launching.
- More accounts & administration was dealt with. An extra meeting of the PC will be held shortly to consider the annual accounts.
- In the light of several recent incidents cutting the village off, Emergency traffic planning will be considered at the next meeting.
- Next meeting of the Parish Council: 20 July 2006 at 7.15
