Background to Dog Licence images, by Diana __________________________________________ Diana and her family lived at the Cottage in Shotley Gate. The dog licence is from 1960, bought at the Shotley post office. She also has one for 1959 and 1961. Her parents were not well off so seven shillings and six would have been a lot of money then. She also has two rent books for 1 the Cottages Shotley Gate, one for 1959 and 1960. The rent for the house was 30 shillings a week - translated into our money would be £1.50. The rent was collected by a Mr Sparrow who lived in Ipswich. Diana also came across the letter my mum got when she applied for family allowance, you did not get it for the first child then, so she would have just got it for her. Eight shillings a week [40p] thats probably how they got the dog licence, the dog in question was an alsation called Trudy. Interesting that the back of the dog licence mentions rabies. (c)
