HMS Ganges development

Ganges News #5, 11 September 2007, issued by Babergh District Council
Welcome to the latest issue of Ganges News – aimed at keeping all parties interested in the future of the HMS Ganges site up-to-date as to its future use

What has happened recently?

Babergh District Council has recently received a series of drawings and an Environmental Statement as an amendment to the existing application for reserved matters for 404 retirement units. These reserved matters directly address issues of the siting, design and external appearance of the buildings, as well as those of access and landscaping.

How can we see a copy of these reserved matters?

Copies are already available for viewing from the Planning Reception at Babergh's Hadleigh Headquarters. We aim to place some of the key drawings up on the Babergh website as soon as possible – and will send around another email with a link when that is done. [Meanwhile, some of these drawings are on MyShotley.com, here]

How can we express our views about these reserved matters?

Babergh will shortly be consulting on these matters and will ensure that the parish councils on the Peninsula and other interested parties will be fully involved. New site notices will be displayed at the site in due course and an advertisement will appear in the local press.

What about the other anticipated Haylink applications?

Babergh is still considering and evaluating the company's application for a Certificate of Lawful Existing Use for the inclusion of a residential training centre.

Equally, the Council is in talks with Haylink's agents regarding their current planning application for a link road to provide vehicular access to the Shotley Marina development.

Finally, Babergh does not as yet have a clear indication from Haylink when they propose to submit a totally new planning application which addresses the concerns expressed by the Secretary of State last year. However, we do understand it is Haylink's intention to submit an application this year.

We aim to keep you informed as each of these (potential) applications progress. [For more details click here]
