As any of you may be aware, especially those who have children who are students at Holbrook High School , a new Sports Centre is nearing completion. In fact by the time you read this the building will have been handed over and will be preparing for use. I think it is important to emphasize that this is not only a resource for use by the School, although it will be a welcome addition to the facilities at the School's disposal. This is very much a resource for the whole community and it is whole community use that will make it successful. The facilities are impressive; A Sports Hall big enough to hold Basketball matches, able to accommodate 4 Badminton courts, Volleyball, Five a Side Football, Netball, Trampoline and also as an indoor training facility for various Sports during Winter months. A Fully Equipped Fitness Suite /Gym, with the latest up to date Dynogym equipment. This is very much seen as the real workhorse of the Facilities and Regular use Membership at very competitive monthly rates will be available. There is a large community room with Kitchen which will be available for hire and will be superb for club or Society use, being fully wired for IT and other equipment use. The changing facilities are plentiful and those in use to the School will be separate from those the community will use, so you won't have to change alongside Year 10 after their “Cross Country” run. I cannot emphasize enough this is very much for the whole Peninsula and the School and Governors are keen for the community to see this as their Sports Centre and use it to it's full potential. So any individual or club, sports or community based group. Please don't hesitate to contact the centre with your enquiries, on 01473 328015. Ian McLean, Parent Governor Holbrook High School.

Peninsula gets it's very own leisure facilityThe waiting is almost over for local residents on the Shotley peninsular, who are keen to use the brand new leisure facility, based at Holbrook High School. This fantastic new centre, jointly funded by the Big Lottery, is set to open it's doors to the public after Christmas, although some of the facilities are already being utilised by the school and local clubs. The centre boasts a state of the art fitness gym, plus a multi-purpose sports hall with viewing area, a community meeting room, and an outdoor all weather floodlit area. Rob Sherrington, head teacher at Holbrook High school, who will be managing the centre along with a dedicated team said “ This is an excellent opportunity for everyone on the peninsula to benefit from increased access to sport and healthier lifestyles. We are very hopeful that many people within the community will enjoy the facilities at the centre”. Any clubs or groups wanting to find out more about the new facility should phone (01473) 328015.
