Wind farm in Shotley
There are rumours circulating widely in Shotley that a wind farm is
planned for the village and while it is a fact that a windmill is
currently under construction at Shotley village hall, the residents of
the village need not worry.

The windmill is part of the set the for
Shotley Drama Group's forthcoming pantomime 'Puss in Boots'.

This year's panto, under the direction of Barbara Moss-Taylor, features
many of the Shotley 'regulars' as well as some of the group's younger
members coming through to lead roles. With a first class script and
lots of good songs, it promises to be yet another successful panto
season for Shotley. There will be goodies and baddies and, if past
years are anything to go by, splendid audiences who play their vital
part so well. Musical Director Thomas Durrant is putting soloists and
chorus through their paces to get the best from well-known songs
included in the show.

So, make sure you get your tickets early! 'Puss In Boots' is on at
Shotley Village Hall on February 15th-18th 2006 each evening at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm) and also a matinee on Saturday 18th at 2.30pm (doors open at 2pm). Tickets are available from Shotley Street and Shotley Gate Post Offices, The Rose Inn or by Telephoning 01473 787630

Auditioning for their next pantomime

Pantomime in Shotley has become an essential part of the village
calendar and Shotley Drama Group's next offering will be Puss in Boots
in February. Preparations are already underway for read-throughs and
auditions in September and October. This is a super pantomime with a
good selection of strong character roles, cameos and chorus parts. It
is the story of a sassy, streetwise cat who magically gains the power
of speech and sets about using his (or her) talents to help change his
poor master's fortunes.

Shotley Drama Group is always pleased to offer a warm welcome to new members and we are particularly keen to meet budding performers to fill some of the younger adult roles.

Anyone interested in speaking roles should attend read-throughs at
Shotley Village Hall at 7.45pm on Thursday 22nd September and Thursday 29th September. Auditions for both Chorus and Principal parts will be held at the Village Hall on Thursday 6th October at 7.45pm.

For more information call either Barbara Moss-Taylor on 01473 788909 or David Armes on 01473 787630.

My Fair Lady
The latest offering from the Shotley Drama Group is 'My Fair Lady' (9-14 October 2006) with husband and wife Andrew and Catherine Chambers taking the roles of Professor Higgins and Eliza Doolittle (pictured during rehearsal)

The strong cast includes all the Shotley regulars with Derek Long as Colonel Pickering and Andy Bynoth as Alfred P Doolittle. As always with Shotley productions the principals are well supported by the rest of the cast and chorus to maintain the overall high standard that the group has achieved over the years.

The show has provided a great challenge to wardrobe mistress Teresa Heath and her team and the hats and dresses for the Ascot and Ball scenes in particular are a credit to them all.

This is only the second times that the group has staged a full-blown musical but the tremendous success of its production of 'Oliver' a couple of years back gave the members the confidence to stage another well known musical.

Months of hard work by the cast, music director Thomas Durrant and choreographer Brian Spalding and the backstage crew have come together to provide first class local entertainment by local people for the local community.

Tickets are £6.50 adults and £4.50 concessions and are available from both Shotley Post Offices, The Rose Inn, Scrivs in Holbrook or from David Armes on 01473 787630. We are also offering a group discount scheme of one free ticket if you book a group of ten. To take advantage of this please contact David Armes. So come along and support local drama and enjoy one of the best-loved West End shows, but don't delay, tickets are going quickly
