19 Mar 2007, new Buzabout car launched |
|

| More than four years of hard work has finally taken its toll on the original Buzabout car and for the past couple of months a spare car has been used whilst awaiting delivery of a new replacement car. |

|
| This finally arrived on the 12 March and on Monday 19 March an official launch party was held at The Shipwreck, Shotley Marina which was attended by our local councillors Penny Clarke and Wendy Sadler together with officers from Suffolk County Council Community Transport department (who funded the vehicle), senior management from Suffolk ACRE, which is the office base for Buzabout, passengers and drivers. There was also our local DJ from Town 102FM, Nick Morrell, who not only came along as a representative of the radio station but also as a user of the service and a photographer from the EADT and Evening Star |
| |
| The early morning snow was a worrying sight but fortunately it cleared in time for the photographs and the sun made a welcome appearance. I would like to extend my thanks to The Shipwreck for supplying hot drinks and cakes for the event – all of which was greatly appreciated. |

| The new car is based on a Fiat Scudo and is wheelchair accessible via a ramp and seats up to 5 passengers. The familiar yellow colour has been replaced by a metallic red with yellow sign writing but the honey bee (or wasp as many called it) has been removed and the sign writing displays the phone number on both sides of the car together with the name. |
| |
| Buzabout is for anyone living on the Peninsula who needs to travel where public transport is not available or does not run at a time when travel is needed or are unable to use public transport due to mobility problems. The Suffolk Saver card and the Explore card are accepted on the service but must be shown to the driver when travelling. |
Details of the service and/or bookings can be made by calling 0845 458 1920, Monday to Friday 9am – 4pm. Leaflets about the service are also available in local shops here on MyShotley. |
