| "Hello We are planning a Native American Indian Powwow in Shotley at the Village Hall on June 16 and 17. There will be several teepees as people will be camping for the event. There will also be several traders selling Native American crafts and assorted. We anticipate up to 100 dancers all dressed in authentic regalia and will be having demonstrations of the dancing. We have the Drum, the Centreland Singers, consisting of men from the UK that have travelled to the states to learn the songs and have performed the Drum in several powwows in the UK for years. The Grand Entry on Saturday and Sunday will be at 1:30 and it will last until 6:00 each day. The admission prices are £2.50 for adults, £1.50 for children 13 and under and free for under 5. This is the first type of entertainment of this sort to be held in this area and we anticipate a large turnout from the general public. People will be coming from all over the UK and from Germany and France and other countries. Profits from the powwow will be shared between the NSPCC in the UK and for the Drug and Alcohol Rehab Unit of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma. Hosts for this event are Bob and Anoli Wood of Shotley Gate. Bob is British by birth but has been adopted into the Choctaw Tribe. Anoli is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, her grandfather was of full blood. She is a Storyteller and tells of the true history and ancient legends of the Native American and is available for lectures to schools, clubs...ect.
