Shotley Youth and Community Project |

Press Release 4 June 2006
A meeting for everyone in Shotley will be held on Thursday evening to take forward ideas for a new After School Club in the village. The Shotley Youth and Community Project has called the meeting at 7.30pm in the Village Hall to seek volunteers for a committee to manage the project and for people who may be interested in working with young people. The After School Club for young people of High School age was the idea of the Youth Forum based at Holbrook High School and has the full support of Shotley Parish Council. Project Co-ordinator Janet Norden, who has submitted an application for £7000 to the Local Network Fund for Children and Young People, wants people with a range of skills and talents to help take the project forward. "If we are successful in getting the grant we will need local people to help with its administration and in supervising and providing activities. It is also important that young people themselves continue to be involved and we hope that they will also come along on Thursday. Meeting the needs of young people was seen by a majority of residents as a priority when they were consulted on drawing up the Parish Plan." It is hoped that the club will provide local people to use the volunteering opportunity to access training to become professionally qualified youth workers.
