Simon Lake was a boy seaman at HMS Ganges. When he revisits the now-derelict site over forty years later he stumbles across the dead body of a young girl. Now the partner of a succesful accountancy firm in Ipswich, Simon's world is shattered when he finds himself the prime suspect in a murder enquiry. With the police making little progress and his life falling apart, Simon decides that it is up to him to find the killer.
