The garden at Kidzone

SHOTLEY KIDZONE - (formerly Shotley Village playgroup) started in 1968, in the village hall. The playgroup became a charity in approximately 1984. In 1989 the playgroup moved into a second hand portacabin at the primary school (see picture, right).

Growing from strength to strength, by 2003, it was serving a population of approximately 2,330 covering Shotley, Shotley Gate and Erwarton. There are now 100 children on its register.

It moved into its new premises (see picture, right) in October 2005 (inside Shotley School grounds). The project took two years to complete and after a lot of hard work, we got there in the end. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising events over the years. We need to continue to fund-raise in order to be able to meet the running costs of Kidzone, so look out for up-coming fundraising events, which will be advertised on this website (News section).

The garden landscaping was carried out for Kidzone by LandsCapability. As well as being at a special price, they very kindly donated the patio centrepiece seen in the photograph above.

Please support them - visit www.landscapability.com

We are also very grateful to Alex Pettersson, one of the school parents, for donating all the plants.

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED

The committee invites you to attend their AGM on Wednesday, 25 April 2007 at 7.30pm in the Kidzone portacabin (inside the grounds of Shotley CP school).

Kidzone cannot run without a committee. It's the time of year when our current volunteers step down and we vote in new members. Our 3 key volunteers - Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer are leaving after almost 4 years of service. We also need more general members to assist with general organisation, fundraising, etc.

You do not have to have a child attending Kidzone to be involved. We welcome new people and new ideas. If you have any spare time, please consider joining and helping us to continue to provide a much needed, high quality and valuable facility for the children in our community, ranging from 2 ½ to 11 years old. Committee meetings are held quarterly, in the portacabin, at a time which suits everyone.

For further information, please contact Therasa Butcher on 787873. We look forward to seeing you there.

Many thanks, Kidzone Committee
